Beginning September 1, , certain health care practitioners who provide direct patient care must complete an approved human trafficking prevention training course in order to renew their license.
In order to satisfy the training requirement, the course must be approved by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. Health care practitioners are in a unique position to intervene in human trafficking, one of the most insidious and seemingly invisible public health challenges. This training is meant to provide you with a variety of resources to inform and support planning for that critical response. TDLR thanks our licensees for being part of our team in the fight against human trafficking in Texas.
The training requirement goes into effect on September 1, and is required for every renewal on or after that date. Students will be responsible for the associated fees for the aforementioned background checks and screenings.
These candidates have either an associate degree in respiratory therapy or a certificate of completion. Program applicants who qualify for advanced standing receive an administratively approved, individually prepared degree plan that recognizes previously earned college credits and professional credentials.
Comprehensive Exams will be offered three times per year, in May, August, and December. The first of these exams, the Therapist Multiple Choice Examination TMC , is a written test that students take at the end of their junior year, spring semester. After passing all junior-level courses, students must demonstrate competence by passing this examination, minimally at the certification level in order to qualify for HSRT Internship.
Students that pass the TMC at the higher level, the registry level, on the first attempt will not be required to repeat this examination. Students that do not pass minimally at the certification level on their first attempt will not be allowed to enter internship and must enroll in the review course, HSRT Comprehensive Respiratory Care.
Students that do not take and pass. The CSE consists of clinical problems that are meant to simulate real clinical practice in Respiratory Care. Current passing scores for the comprehensive exams are as follows.

Search the Texas HHS site. Health Care Practitioner Human Trafficking Training House Bill , 86th Legislature, Regular Session, , requires Health and Human Services to approve training courses on human trafficking, including at least one that is free of charge, post the list of approved trainings on the HHS website, and update the list of approved trainings as necessary.
