Upon looking at the firewall logs and starting up wireshark it seems to modify the packet headers as they pass through it which caused my FreeBSD workstation to rightly drop them as malformed packets. This may be fixed now but beware of it if you are looking for a cheap network fix like I was.
This AP would also make network connections to all of the hosts on my network on a lot of the common service ports 21, 20, , 80, etc I can't explain why it was doing it either I would chalk this up to a firmware bug as well but this just seems like very bad design.
